Why go organic?
You may be wondering why I push organic ingredients for everything, even savory and healthy dishes. Organic ingredients go beyond just health and wellness, and contribute so much to the taste and flavor of a recipe. So, if you think that you’re making something healthy and buying fruits, veggies, or meats so maybe you don’t need to spend the extra to go organic here – let me sway your thinking.
Organic ingredients are made in a more pure way, therefore using no additives, no GMOs, and minimal ingredients. This really allows the true ingredients to shine – and because of that their flavor shines through. Therefore, organic ingredients are more flavorful than their non organic counterparts. So, just because it’s already a healthy recipe, or you’re already buying good for you ingredients – it doesn’t mean you can skip organic! Trust me here, and make the switch. Your body and your taste buds will thank you!
So, I highly recommend that you buy the best organic ingredients for this recipe! You can also shop my Amazon Storefront for all my favorite organic ingredients here. Tip – hover over each ingredient to see the name. And if you want to learn more about organic foods and the difference, read my post here on Food Labels and What They Mean.

This healthy burger bowl recipe is made with a mix of ground chicken and pork. I add lettuce, grilled onions, green salsa, avocado, cilantro, and lime for these amazing Salsa Verde Burger Bowls!
Ingredients
1/2-pound Organic Prairie Ground Pork
1/2-pound Organic Prairie Ground Chicken
1 1/2 tablespoons organic taco seasoning
1 organic yellow onion
2 tablespoons Organic Valley Ghee
Fine sea salt
2 organic Romaine lettuce hearts
2 organic avocados
1 organic lime
1/4 cup organic chopped cilantro
Organic green salsa, for serving
Directions
- In a large bowl add the ground pork, ground chicken, and taco seasoning. Mix the meat together completely to incorporate the spice mix and so the meat is evenly mixed. Place the bowl in the fridge, until ready to form burgers.
- Thinly slice the onion and add to a large skillet with the ghee. Put over medium/high heat and cook until onions are slightly browned and translucent, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and lightly salt the onions to our liking. Set aside.
- Chop lettuce into thin slices and place in bowls. Slice avocado and cut limes into wedges. Set aside.
- Remove the meat from the fridge and form the burgers four 4-ounce patties that are about 5-inches in diameter.
- Heat grill to high, place the burgers on the grill and cook, flipping half way though, until internal temperature of 165°F. Depending on what kind of grill you have, it may take longer, propane, gas, open grill – there is a lot of variables here so make sure you don’t leave burgers unattended.
- (Or alternatively, you can cook burgers in a large skillet over medium/high heat, add the burgers. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until internal temperature is 165°F).
- Place the burgers on top of the lettuce, add grilled onions, avocado, and cilantro on top. Serve with salsa verde and a wedge of lime.
