And according to webmd.com we need a minimum of 8,000 to 11,00 antioxidants a day, so eating just a cup of blueberries puts us over the hump with just one food!

According to the Psychiatric Times, blueberries are the number one superfood used to alleviate the symptoms of depression. Blueberries have been shown to significantly improve mood, because they trigger neurological responses in the brain. What a tasty way to stay happy!
Blueberries contain compounds called polyphenols. These stimulate the formation of bone-forming cells, which can help strengthen bones. So if you’re not a fan of milk, start eating blueberries instead!
High in Fiber
Blueberries are high in fiber, which makes them a great part of a healthy diet. Fiber helps you have bowel movements and if you don’t have a bowel movement every day, you probably need more fiber. Blueberries can help with this and beyond because of their gut health benefits too!
Foods that are high in fiber, like blueberries, can help strengthen or boost your metabolism. Blueberries also may influence genes which regulate fat-burning and storage, helping reduce abdominal fat and lower cholesterol. According to Driscoll's.

When is best to eat blueberries?
There is no best time to eat blueberries so they can be enjoyed any time of day! But if you’re worried about blood sugar spiking, it’s best to eat all fruits or sugars after a meal. I eat blueberries after my breakfast every morning and I also enjoy them in my smoothie for my mid morning snack that usually follows a handful of almonds. I will also sometimes eat blueberries after lunch or dinner if I’m craving more sweetness!
Do frozen blueberries have the same benefits as fresh blueberries?
Yes! Fruit is frozen at its peak so it is just as healthy as fresh fruit and can have even better flavor when things are not in season. If you make smoothies daily, like I do, frozen blueberries are the best way to go!
Do blueberries in baked goods have the same health benefits?
Yes, all blueberries count! Even cooked blueberries like in waffles, muffins, coffee cakes, or jams contain the same antioxidants as fresh blueberries!
Do dried blueberries have the same benefits as fresh blueberries?
Yes and no. Dried fruits have the same antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals as fresh fruits. But most of the time they have added sugars. So if all you can do it eat dried blueberries that is still good! Just be careful of how much sugar you’re eating as well and take that into consideration for your sugar intake for the day.
I’m obsessed with the Food to Live Organic Dried Blueberries, they are so good! But honestly, they are like candy! That’s how I treat them compared to fresh blueberries. I eat them when I’m craving sweet candy and it’s so much better than candy, like gummy worms. But they have a similar amount of sugar with added health benefits! Because of my tapioca allergy, I can’t eat most all of the organic gummy candies. So dried blueberries are kind of like my candy!
What can I add blueberries to?
Pancakes, waffles, cereal, granola, toast, fruit salad, on top of ice cream, add to yogurt, add to muffins, cakes, cupcakes, scones, salads, smoothies, milkshakes, literally almost anything!
So, what are you waiting for? Make blueberries part of your weekly shopping list and start reaping the benefits!
Why use organic ingredients in this recipe? You all know I’m a huge organic advocate, and I bet you may be thinking sometimes, Why would I even bother to use organic ingredients in something that is so sweet and indulgent? But, that is the exact reason why you should use organic ingredients! Sweet things need to have flavor in order to be good, otherwise they are just sweet and they don’t taste like much else. Organic ingredients are more pure than conventional ones, therefore they actually have more flavor than the non organic options. Say it with me, organic means more flavor! And not just more flavor but a more true and pure flavor. And organic ingredients are much healthier for you to eat in general as they do not contain GMOs or anything artificial. Plus, you are being environmentally friendly when you choose organic ingredients!
So, I highly recommend that you buy the best organic ingredients for this recipe! You can also shop my Amazon Storefront for all my favorite organic ingredients here. Tip – hover over each ingredient to see the name. And if you want to learn more about organic foods and the difference, read my post here on Food Labels and What They Mean.
