But, in the meantime, I was thinking – buttercream frosting is a hell of a lot like butter. I mean, it’s the sweet version of it. And, you can dip all kinds of things in it. And, I’ve never seen anyone make a buttercream board, or a frosting board! So, I decided to pioneer this trend into a sweet version and make a buttercream board, or a frosting board. I’m still not sure what to call it yet? Comment and tell me your favorite!

So, today I am sharing this Chocolate Buttercream Board with you. It is so easy to make, and it’s a sweet version of the butter board trend that is sweeping social media and the internet. I use a chocolate buttercream and spread it out just like butter onto a board. Then, I add cookies onto the side. The best kinds of cookies for this are shortbread cookies as they are crisp and buttery, so they dip really well. A soft cookie could break easily which is why I didn’t choose a soft baked cookie for this.

I add some rainbow sprinkles on top of the frosting, but you could also add chocolate chips or nuts or caramel sauce – gosh I have so many more ideas for different recipes already! But I wanted to share a very simple buttercream board to start!

I added my Chocolate Chip Shortbread Cookies and my Chocolate Sea Salt Mini Cookies (minus chocolate chips as I ran out today haha!) to this board, but you could add any kind of shortbread or butter cookie you like. If you don’t want to bake something, then graham crackers or animal crackers would be a great option too!

Serve this frosting board, buttercream board – whatever you want to call it, but I’m going to go with Chocolate Buttercream Board – for your next party! And, tell me if you want more recipes like this, I’m thinking a caramel one, a cookie dough one, the possibilities are endless…

FAQ's

What is the butter board trend?

The butter board trend is basically taking soft butter, spreading it onto a cutting board and topping it with toppings that sound good such as fresh herbs, spices, or veggies. You then dip bread, breadsticks, or crackers in it. It’s served like a charcuterie board and is an amazing idea for a party!

Who started the butter board trend?

The butter board trend started on TikTok (by Justin Doiron) and it was originally created by Joshua McFadden who apparently has been making these babies for over ten years! How they are just trending now, is beyond me!

Can you make a sweet butter board?

Yes, you can make a sweet butter board if you want! That is what I’ve done here, and I’ve replaced the butter with buttercream frosting! You can use any kind of buttercream frosting you like, but stick to American buttercream. Other types of buttercream need to be refrigerated because they use egg whites. But, American buttercream can sit out for longer periods of time.

You can top your buttercream with any kind of sweet things such as rainbow sprinkles, chocolate chips, caramel sauce, chocolate ganache, nuts and more!

Why Organic

Why use organic ingredients in this recipe? You all know I’m a huge organic advocate, and I bet you may be thinking sometimes, Why would I even bother to use organic ingredients in something that is so sweet and indulgent? But, that is the exact reason why you should use organic ingredients! Sweet things need to have flavor in order to be good, otherwise they are just sweet and they don’t taste like much else. Organic ingredients are more pure than conventional ones, therefore they actually have more flavor than the non organic options. Say it with me, organic means more flavor! And not just more flavor but a more true and pure flavor. And organic ingredients are much healthier for you to eat in general as they do not contain GMOs or anything artificial. Plus, you are being environmentally friendly when you choose organic ingredients!

So, I highly recommend that you buy the best organic ingredients for this recipe! You can also shop my Amazon Storefront for all my favorite organic ingredients here. Tip – hover over each ingredient to see the name. And if you want to learn more about organic foods and the difference, read my post here on Food Labels and What They Mean.
