We were recently down south in Carlsbad, and we go there a few times a year and have been for a long time now. We always stay at Ocean Palms Beach Resort, which is our favorite spot as it’s right in downtown Carlsbad and it’s beach front. We get some beach time, Delaney goes surfing, we eat at lots of good organic eateries in Encinitas, and we eat tons of sushi!
One of the main tourist attractions in Carlsbad is the Carlsbad Flower Fields. They are only open for about six to eight weeks in the spring from late March to early May, when the Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers are in full bloom. They have over 50 acres of flowers! You can walk the fields to see them up close, or you can also take a wagon ride.
The field is set up in a rainbow of purple, to red, to pink, orange, yellow, and white flowers which makes for amazing photos along with the rainbow section of flowers. It’s so beautiful to look at all the rows of flowers that create this warm colored rainbow on the ground. The colors of Ranunculus flowers you see today are a direct result of the founder of The Flower Fields, as he carefully saved and organized seeds from beautiful colored Ranunculus flowers in order to plant them together to grow more.
They have an Alice in Wonderland vibe with photo props in the garden area, and even a maze for kids. You can go home with bouquets of flowers, and they now have a full plant and garden shop there as well. If I lived down there, I would spend so much money on plants! If you’re in Carlsbad, I would highly recommend checking out The Flower Fields, just so you can see it in person once. Even Delaney said it was cool to see it.
